Adult's Book Review: Verity by Colleen Hoover

Updated: Mar 7

Age: 18+ [beware of trigger warnings]

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling author who’s offered the opportunity of a lifetime: to write the remaining books of a bestselling series by Verity Crawford who, because of a car accident, can’t finish it. Lowen settles down at the Crawford household to sort through Verity’s notes on the novels, but what she finds is a chilling autobiography Verity wrote before her accident that sheds light on the most tragic moments of her life.

It is a thrilling, disturbing story that will keep you at the edge of your seat and make you question what’s real and what’s not. Hoover does a wonderful job at bringing to the surface the dark, deviant nature of Lowen, Verity and Jeremy, Verity’s husband, a man too perfect to be real. It’s a cautionary tale of how far people will go for love, no matter how awful the deed is.

Your stomach will twist with every turn; every chapter is better than the next, and the ability to put things down disappears when reading Verity. Do not read at night if you want to have a good rest—because you will think about this book for days.
