Children's Book Review: Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper

Age: 3+

A duck, a cat and a squirrel make pumpkin soup every night in their old, white cabin in the woods. They each have a specific job; the cat cuts the pumpkin, the duck adds the salt and the squirrel stirs the soup - perfect! Or so it seems ….

One day, the little duck decides that, instead of squirrel, he would enjoy being head chef and pinches the wooden stirring spoon off of its hook. Afterwards, squabbling erupts in the small wooden hut as the three animals argue over their pumpkin soup duties!

The animals’ argument and eventual compromise is a powerful lesson for children about friendship, compassion and sharing. Its simple message, with beautiful illustrations and funny animal characters, will make your children snicker, learn and fall in love!
