Did you know there has been a scouts group in Holbrook for over 100 years? We provide active Cub and Scout groups for boys and girls in Holbrook, Belper and the surrounding villages. We have an active programme with multiple camps and adventure activities each year and we are always looking for new members.

We meet on a Monday night in Arkwright Hall: Cubs currently meet 6:30 - 8pm (8-10.5 years), and Scouts 7 - 9pm (10.5-14 years), although times and locations can vary depending on our activities each week with details posted on the 1st Holbrook Facebook page.
2025 has already been a fantastic year for 1st Holbrook, despite the gloomy weather. Early in January, some of our Scouts had a Sunday morning in the open at Drum Hill Camp, preparing game birds. It’s safe to say that even though none of them had tackled anything like that before, they all got stuck in and gave it 100%, although some of them might not return to this sort of thing again.
Later in January, both Cubs and Scouts had their Chilly Challenge camp at Gradbach Camp in Staffordshire. This involved a lot of weather-based activities with Cubs staying in the cottage while the Scouts camped in tents which they had to pack away in the snow! Saturday saw both Cubs and Scouts undertaking a lengthy walk through Lud’s Church and over to the Roaches while the same evening was spent around the campfire, toasting marshmallows and keeping warm.

Monday nights back in Holbrook have seen a range of activities including biscuit-making by the Scouts and the useful life skill of emergency first aid. Even though the photo here looks like a few of them have come across an accident, it was a demonstration of the recovery position and all the Cubs involved were very keen to get themselves on the floor to have a go as well as wrap themselves and each other in bandages.

We are keen to share more of what we do with the wider community and we have an active Facebook page to share our updates. You can find us on Facebook at @1stHolbrookScouts and we would love it if you had a look.
For anyone thinking of joining, why not come along and join us for a session and see what we do? We are also always keen to attract new volunteers to help us deliver our sessions and we would love to see some new faces joining us in 2025.
