My daughter and I have been attending Tiny Talk for the last 6 months and have truly loved every session. Kath is so welcoming and creates a friendly, inclusive atmosphere for both parents and babies. She leads the classes as confidently as if she’s been doing it for 20 years (she hasn’t!) and thankfully has a great singing voice! She goes above and beyond too: once I had to bring my slightly ill 3-year-old along which Kath was not only fine with but she also dug out some age-appropriate toys to keep her busy.
Babies are captivated by the songs and stories and love interacting with each other using sensory props, musical instruments and, of course, the big bag of toys at the end! Once they are able to roam, they can be found on Kath’s lap, socialising with friends or just exploring the room. Kath’s 17 -month-old daughter, Edie, attends classes too and inspires the other babies with her amazing signing vocabulary, currently standing at 110 signs!
I’ve loved learning each week’s themed BSL signs. Initially I found it a little hard to keep up, but every third week features a helpful recap and the songs and signs also pop up again in other weeks. It’s so satisfying to now know lots of useful signs which I try to use at home, including teaching them to my 3-year-old.
The time for drinks, biscuits and chat at the end is lovely and gives the group a chance to get to know each other.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end, like maternity leave! Our final session, filled with colour and cake, was celebrating Tiny Talk’s 21st birthday. It may be the end of our time in class but it definitely won’t be the end of our signing journey!
